The Gersh Experience announces appointment of new Program Director
Melville, N.Y., July 28, 2009
The Gersh Experience, a post secondary program for students with neurobiological disorders, of North Tonawanda today announced that Dr. Fran Murphy was appointed to be the new Program Director. Kevin Gersh stated today. “We are pleased to have a new Director of Dr. Murphy’s stature.”
The Gersh Experience has multiple campus residences throughout North Tonawanda. It serves College aged youth, who are intellectually capable and have an autism spectrum disorder or other neurobiological disorders. These students attend local Colleges, live in a supervised setting in North Tonawanda and receive, tutoring, life skills and social skills training from the highly trained and specialized Gersh Staff. “We are very proud of the innovative work of this dedicated staff.” Kevin Gersh stated.
Dr. Murphy was most recently the Founding Dean of the Medaille College School of Education. He was a Professor and the Chair of the Educational Administration Department at Saint John Fisher College and was a School Superintendent for 23 years including a posting of Superintendent of the Williamsville School District. Dr. Murphy was selected as a New York State Superintendent of the year and one of North America’s 100 outstanding Executive Educators in 1986.
Dr. Murphy began his career as a special Education Teacher and has taught Special education at the College level. Dr. Murphy began his duties on July 30 and is a resident of North Tonawanda.
