Our Admissions Process
Below we have detailed the enrollment process for Gersh Academy. We hope you will find this information helpful in enrolling your child in our innovative school. Should you need additional information, please feel free to contact our Admissions Coordinator at (631) 385-3342.
- During the initial intake call, information is gathered and a tour can be scheduled to view our facility. We ask that all requested paperwork be sent to our office prior to the tour in order to evaluate how we can best serve your child.
An application will be sent to you. In addition, you will be sent a brochure which will provide more information about our program. Please complete the enclosed application and send it to the mailing address listed as soon as possible.
Federal law, IDEA, states that a free appropriate public education (FAPE) must be available to any individual child who needs special education and related services, and may require public school systems to pay for private placements, like Gersh Academy, when their own programs or classrooms are not deemed appropriate. We encourage you to visit http://idea.ed.gov for more information.
- While touring the facility, you will have the chance to speak with our Director of Education and/or Site Director about the school day and how we can accommodate your son or daughter. If interested, we will schedule a day/time for a Student Visit.
The Student Visit is a vital step in the enrollment process because it allows your child to spend quality time with staff and other students in the classroom. He/She can witness firsthand that the Gersh program can be enjoyable and that they can succeed here.
Within one week of the student visit, a decision is made whether the school is appropriate for your child and an enrollment packet will be mailed to you.
All enrollment paperwork must be completed and returned to our Admissions Coordinator along with your deposit. A start date will be determined and you and your child can prepare for their first day of school.
